Compare cheap 7 seater car hire at Ibiza Airport. The summer hire car cap, Formentera ferry fees, beach parking that fills by 10am and the Es Vedrà fine.
Ibiza caps the number of cars on the island every summer, and hire fleets are capped too. Read the section below, and book early for July and August.
Ibiza Airport handled 9,138,224 passengers in 2025, and the UK was its biggest international market by a wide margin, with 1,870,796 passengers (Aena).
The island is small, roughly 40 km by 20 km (Ibiza Spotlight). The airport sits about 7.5 km from Ibiza Town (Spain.info). With a 7 seater, every cala on the island is a day trip.
Ibiza’s summer cap on cars
Under the island’s vehicle law, Ibiza limited the number of vehicles on its roads from 1 June to 30 September 2026. The daily cap was 17,668 vehicles, down from 20,168 in 2025 (La Voz de Ibiza).
Hire cars have a ceiling of their own. In 2026 it was 14,000 (Periódico de Ibiza), shared between 99 authorised hire firms (La Voz de Ibiza).
Hire vehicles are registered by the firms through the island council’s scheme (Ibiza Circular), so you do not apply for a permit yourself. The cap matters in a different way. A fixed number of hire cars means the bigger ones go first, so book a 7 seater for the summer months as early as you can.
Formentera by ferry
Formentera runs its own limit from 1 June to 30 September (Formentera.eco). In 2025, visitors taking a car across paid about £7.65 (€9) a day in July and August and about £5.10 (€6) a day in June and September, with a five-day minimum in both periods (La Voz de Ibiza).
For 2026, the island kept its ceiling of 1,732 visitor cars (La Voz de Ibiza).
Check whether your rental terms allow the ferry at all. For a day trip, it is usually simpler to leave the 7 seater in Ibiza and cross as foot passengers.
Beach car parks fill early
The most popular beaches have small car parks, and in summer they fill by mid-morning (La Voz de Ibiza):
- Platges de Comte: full before 10am in July and August
- Cala Bassa: full by 10am to 11am in August
- Cala Salada: about 65 spaces
- Ses Salines: paid parking in season
Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta also have an access control from 1 May to 15 October 2026, between 9.30am and 5pm. Cars can go down only until the car park is full. After that, you can walk about 500 metres from the first car park or take the bus from Sant Antoni. A boat also runs from Sant Antoni port (Periódico de Ibiza).
With seven people, the answer is simple. Leave early, or pick a quieter beach for the morning and save the famous one for late afternoon.
Sunset at Es Vedrà: a £2,550 parking fine
The sunset over Es Vedrà draws crowds every evening. Parking on the road near Cala d’Hort and the viewpoints carries a fine of about £2,550 (€3,000), enforced with a number plate camera on a police car (Periódico de Ibiza).
Landowners have also put barriers across some of the tracks to the viewpoints. Park only where it is clearly allowed, even if that means a longer walk.
Ibiza 7 Seaters before the summer cap bites
Hire fleets are capped in summer, so compare the 7 seaters at Ibiza early and lock in a cancellable rate.
Ibiza Town: barriers and a new car park
From January 2026, double barriers were due to control traffic into Dalt Vila and La Marina, the old town and the port area. Access is limited to residents and public transport, with deliveries allowed between 7am and 5pm (Periódico de Ibiza).
A new car park with about 900 spaces at Sa Joveria began construction in March 2026 (La Voz de Ibiza). For an evening in the old town, park outside the barriers and walk in.
Spanish rules in a Spanish hire car
In Spain, children under 1.35 metres must use an approved child seat secured on the back seat. GOV.UK also says you can drive on a UK photocard licence, and that police check regularly for alcohol and drugs (GOV.UK).
Ibiza’s police take that seriously. In the last week of August 2026 alone, the Guardia Civil made six drink-driving arrests and filed 76 further reports (La Voz de Ibiza).
Since 1 January 2026, the connected V-16 warning light has been the only legal way to mark a broken-down Spanish car, and not carrying one costs about £68 (€80) (Ministerio del Interior). Check the glovebox at pickup.
From 1 October 2026, when you overtake a cyclist on an interurban road you must slow by at least 20 km/h and leave at least 1.5 metres (DGT). The DGT has also announced fixed speed cameras on the EI-300 to Santa Eulària and the EI-600 near Sant Antoni, plus a third on the EI-900 (La Voz de Ibiza).
Ibiza is in the Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System applies at the airport (La Moncloa). Children aged 11 or younger are not fingerprinted (GOV.UK). Allow extra time for a family of seven.
Picking up at Ibiza Airport
Aena lists the car hire desks on the ground floor, mostly in the arrivals hall. A few firms have their desks in the baggage reclaim hall instead (Aena).
Your voucher will say where to go. Firms based off the airport usually meet you outside and take you to their depot.
Seven people, seven cases
A large suitcase holds 80 to 110 litres. With all seven seats in use, the roomiest common 7 seaters manage about 340 to 350 litres of boot.

For a full family with a big case each, look for the ACRISS FV class, meaning seven or more seats plus more space, or book an 8 or 9 seater. The tracks down to some calas are steep and narrow, so do not oversize if you do not need to.

Getting a better 7 Seater deal in Ibiza
- Compare the total, not the daily rate. Fuel policy, deposit, insurance excess and extra driver charges all sit outside the headline price.
- Book early for summer. The hire car cap means a fixed number of cars. 7 seaters go first, and late bookings pay the most.
- Price child seats per day. Hire firms usually charge per seat, and two or three seats over a fortnight add up. Bringing your own is often cheaper.
- Use free cancellation. Lock in a cancellable rate, then search again nearer the date and rebook if prices fall.

Questions people ask
Do I need a permit to drive a hire car in Ibiza?
Not yourself. Hire cars are registered by the firms under the island’s summer vehicle scheme. The cap does limit how many hire cars exist, so book early.
Can I take a hire car to Formentera?
Only if your rental terms allow it, and Formentera charges visitors’ cars a daily fee from June to September. A foot passenger day trip is usually simpler.
What time do Ibiza beach car parks fill?
In July and August, Platges de Comte is often full before 10am and Cala Bassa by 10am to 11am.
Can I park on the road to watch the sunset at Es Vedrà?
No. Parking on the road near Cala d’Hort can cost about £2,550 (€3,000), and police use a camera to enforce it.
How do I find a cheap 7 Seater at Ibiza Airport?
Compare several hire firms at once. Our search shows 7 seaters from firms in the terminal and nearby, with the total price for each. Summer stock is capped, so the earlier you search, the more choice you get.
