Compare cheap 7 seater car hire at Orlando Airport. Minivan or SUV, cashless toll options, Florida child seat law and licence rules for UK drivers.
The roads out of Orlando International are toll roads, and none of them take cash. Read the toll section below before you pick a package.
Orlando welcomed 933,500 visitors from the UK in 2025, more than from any other overseas country except Canada, according to Visit Orlando figures reported by TravelPulse.
Most of them are families heading for the theme parks, so demand for 7 seaters is high. It also means the cars are different from anything you will rent in Europe.
American 7 seaters are bigger
In Orlando, a 7 seater usually means a minivan or a full-size SUV. These are larger than the Kodiaq or 5008 you might rent in Spain.
The Toyota Sienna minivan, for example, has 33.5 cubic feet of space behind the third row, about 949 litres (CarGurus). That is nearly three times the boot of a European 7 seater with all seats up.

The chart shows European models. Compare those figures with the 949 litres of a US minivan, and the difference for a family with seven big cases is clear.
Many US minivans come with eight seats rather than seven. The Sienna’s eight-seat version has a middle bench that takes three child seats across. If you are travelling with three young children, that layout keeps the third row free for older ones.
The trade-off is size on the road. A full-size SUV is longer and wider than most UK drivers are used to. Theme park car parks are built for them, but tight hotel garages are not.
Tolls you cannot pay in cash
The Central Florida Expressway Authority runs the toll roads around Orlando, including SR 528 and SR 417 near the airport. It has moved its whole network to cashless tolling (CFX).
There are two ways to pay:
- E-PASS or a compatible transponder: the lowest rate.
- Pay By Plate: a camera reads the number plate and a bill goes to the registered owner. CFX charges double the E-PASS rate for this (CFX).
On a hire car, the registered owner is the hire firm. Hire firms in Orlando usually offer a toll programme, either a daily fee on top of the tolls you use, or a bill for each toll plus an admin charge.
Which toll option is cheaper
For a fortnight of daily trips to Disney and Universal, a flat daily toll package can make sense. For a villa holiday where the car sits on the drive most days, paying per toll is usually cheaper.
Read the toll terms in the search results before you book. Two quotes with the same headline price can end up far apart once tolls are added.

Child seats: Florida law and your own rules
Florida’s child seat law is looser than the UK’s. Children aged three and under must use a car seat. Children aged four and five can use a booster seat (Florida Statutes 316.613).
Breaking the rule is a moving violation with three points on the driver’s licence.
In the UK, children use a child seat until they are 12 or 135 cm tall, whichever comes first (GOV.UK). Florida law does not require a booster for a seven or eight year old, but the safety reasons for using one are the same as at home.
Hire firms charge per seat per day. On a two-week trip with three children, those charges can add up to more than a booster costs to buy. Many families bring their own or buy one on arrival.
Driving rules that catch UK visitors
You drive on the right, and the hire car will almost always be an automatic. That helps.
Turning right on a red light is legal in Florida after you stop, as long as you give way to pedestrians and other traffic. A sign at the junction can ban it (Florida Statutes 316.075).
Speed limits are in mph, so the numbers will look familiar. Watch for school zones, where much lower limits apply at set times.
Licences and insurance
GOV.UK says you can drive in the US on a UK photocard licence. Some states may want a 1949 International Driving Permit as well, and hire firms sometimes ask for one (GOV.UK).
You can only buy an IDP in the UK, so get it before you fly if your hire firm needs it. You will also need an approved ESTA to travel under the Visa Waiver Programme (GOV.UK).
Insurance works differently in the US. Check what the price includes for damage to the car and for damage to other people and property, which is usually sold as extra liability cover. UK packages often bundle this in, while a cheap base rate may not.
Picking up at Orlando International
Orlando’s main hire firms have desks in the terminals, with cars parked in the garages next door. Others are based off the airport and run shuttle buses.
Your voucher will show which applies. With seven people, a pile of cases and tired children after a nine-hour flight, an on-airport desk is worth a little extra. If the off-airport price is much lower, the shuttle may still win.

Spending less on a 7 Seater in Florida
- Compare the total, not the daily rate. Toll packages, extra liability cover, child seats and young driver fees all sit outside the headline price.
- Match the toll option to your plans. A daily package suits heavy driving. Pay per toll if the car will be parked most days.
- Pick minivan or SUV with care. A minivan usually carries more luggage for less money. A large SUV often costs more and can hold less behind the third row.
- Book early with free cancellation. School holidays and Easter bring the highest demand. Lock in a cancellable rate, then search again nearer the date and rebook if prices fall.

Questions people ask
Can I pay Orlando tolls in cash?
No. The CFX network around Orlando is cashless. Your hire firm’s toll programme or Pay By Plate covers the tolls, and Pay By Plate costs double the transponder rate.
Is a minivan or an SUV better for seven people in Orlando?
For luggage, usually a minivan. A Toyota Sienna holds about 949 litres behind the third row, and sliding doors make it easier to load children in tight spaces.
Do I need an International Driving Permit to hire a car in Florida?
Not always. GOV.UK says a UK photocard licence is accepted, but some hire firms ask for an IDP too. Check your rental terms and buy one in the UK if needed.
Do my children need boosters in Florida?
Florida law requires a car seat or booster only up to age five. UK safety advice is the same wherever you drive, so most families keep using boosters for older children.
Where can I compare cheap 7 Seater deals at Orlando Airport?
Compare several hire firms at once. Our search shows minivans and SUVs from firms in the terminals and off the airport, so you can weigh the price against the shuttle. Prices move with demand, so the earlier you search, the more choice you get.
