7 Seater Car Hire Verona Airport

Compare cheap 7 seater car hire at Verona Airport. Lake Garda drives, Sirmione’s seasonal traffic rules, Verona’s ZTL cameras and A22 tolls to the mountains.

Verona’s historic centre is a camera-enforced ZTL. If your hotel is inside it, ask the hotel to register your number plate before you arrive.

Verona Airport passed 4 million passengers in 2025, up 9%, against national growth of 5%. The rise carried on into 2026, with 1.38 million passengers from January to April, up 13.5% (Il Nordest).

The airport is about 9 km from the city centre, roughly 15 minutes by car (World Travel Guide). Most UK families heading this way, though, are bound for Lake Garda.

Lake Garda from the airport

Peschiera, at the southern tip of the lake, is about 20 km from the airport. Leave the A4 at the Lago di Garda Sud exit, or take the A22 to Affi, about 5 km from the eastern shore (360 Garda Life).

Gardaland is right beside Peschiera, about 30 minutes from Verona by car (Air Dolomiti). With a car full of children, it makes an easy first day.

Sirmione’s seasonal traffic rules

Sirmione’s old town is a ZTL. In 2026 the rules ran from 23 March to 13 October, and only cars with a registered plate could enter. On 31 busy days between April and September, the centre was closed to traffic from 2pm to 7pm (Visit Sirmione).

On those closed days a free shuttle runs from the Grifo car park until 9pm (t-online). If you stay inside the walls, register your plate at the Welcome Point (Comune di Sirmione). Expect the rules to return each spring, and check the dates before you go.

Verona’s ZTL cameras

GOV.UK warns that many Italian historic centres need a pass, marked by signs reading ZTL in black on yellow, and that cameras record cars that drive through (GOV.UK).

Verona’s zone covers the historic centre. Fines run from about £71 to £282 (€83 to €332) plus costs, with a discount for paying within five days, and hotel guests can have their plates registered (UnipolMove). Since October 2024, other visitors have needed to book entry in advance (SicurAUTO).

Tolls and the road to the Dolomites

Italian motorways charge by distance: take a ticket on the way in and pay as you leave. The limit is 130 km/h, or 110 km/h in rain (360 Garda Life).

The A22 Brennero motorway runs north past the lake towards the mountains, and its tolls rose by 1.46% on 1 January 2026 (Il Dolomiti). Cortina d’Ampezzo is 265 km from the airport (Ski Cortina), so plan it as a full day’s drive with stops.

Italian rules on the road

A UK photocard licence is accepted in Italy (GOV.UK). The drink-drive limit is 0.5 g per litre, and zero for new drivers (Your Europe).

Children under 1.50 metres need a child restraint, and in Italian-registered cars, children under four also need an alarm that warns if a child is left behind (Brocardi). Ask for one when you book child seats.

Italy is in the Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System applies when you arrive (GOV.UK).

Room for seven and the cases

A large suitcase takes 80 to 110 litres (Markenkoffer). With seven seats in use, the roomiest common 7 seaters still have about 340 to 350 litres of boot (Auto Express).

Bar chart of 7 seater boot space with all seats in use: Peugeot 5008 348 litres, Skoda Kodiaq 340, Kia Sorento 179, previous Peugeot 5008 167, Volkswagen Touran 137, all short of the 560 to 770 litres seven large suitcases need
Boot figures: Auto Express, Carbuyer. Suitcase volumes: Markenkoffer.

For big cases or lake gear, look for the ACRISS FV class, meaning seven or more seats with more space. In the lakeside villages, though, a shorter car is easier to park.

Picking up at Verona Airport

A travel guide puts the main hire firms’ offices in car park 3, just outside arrivals (World Travel Guide). Your voucher confirms where to go.

Spending less on a Verona 7 Seater

  • Register your plate. A hotel inside a ZTL can save you a camera fine that costs more than a day’s hire.
  • Use the Sirmione shuttle. On closed days, parking outside and riding in avoids a wasted drive.
  • Look past the daily rate. Check the excess and deposit against the fuel terms and second driver fees.
  • Book early for summer. Garda is busiest in July and August, so lock in a cancellable rate and search again later.
