7 Seater Car Hire Fuerteventura Airport

Compare cheap 7 seater car hire at Fuerteventura Airport. Cofete dirt road and the 4×4 bus, Lanzarote ferry limits, Spanish child seat and V-16 rules.

Planning a trip to Cofete beach? The only road there is an unpaved track, and many hire agreements do not cover it. Read the section below before you set off.

Fuerteventura welcomed 733,058 British tourists in 2025, about 30.7% of all visitors to the island (Turismo de Islas Canarias).

Most stay in Pájara in the south, around Costa Calma and Morro Jable, or in La Oliva in the north, around Corralejo. Between them, those two areas took more than three quarters of the island’s tourists. A 7 seater links them easily on the main road. The island’s wildest beaches are another matter.

Cofete: the road your hire car may not cover

Cofete beach on the Jandía peninsula is the island’s most dramatic stretch of sand. The road there from Morro Jable is unpaved and takes about an hour (A Fun Couple).

Many hire firms do not cover damage on unpaved roads, even when you have bought cover for the excess. A flat tyre or a cracked sump on the Cofete track can cost you the repair in full.

The bus alternative

A 4×4 bus, line 111, runs from Morro Jable to Cofete and back twice a day. If you miss the return, the walk back takes around three hours.

For a family of seven, the bus is often the safer choice. Leave the 7 seater in Morro Jable and let someone else drive the track.

Ferry trips to Lanzarote

The ferry from Corralejo to Playa Blanca on Lanzarote makes a popular day trip. Taking a hire car on it is a different matter.

Many Fuerteventura hire firms ban inter-island travel or charge extra for it, and cover may not apply on the ferry or on the other island. Check the terms before you book if a day on Lanzarote is part of your plan.

Spanish rules in a Spanish hire car

In Spain, children 135 cm tall or under must use an approved child restraint suited to their height and weight. Getting it wrong costs £171 (€200) and four points (Fundación MAPFRE).

Since 1 January 2026, the connected V-16 warning light has been the only legal way to mark a broken-down Spanish vehicle (Ministerio del Interior). Check the glovebox at pickup.

Spanish law also requires at least 1.5 metres of space when you overtake a cyclist, and you must slow to 20 km/h below the speed limit while you pass (El Debate).

Fuerteventura is in the Schengen area, so the EU Entry/Exit System applies at the airport (GOV.UK).

Seven people, seven cases

A large suitcase holds 80 to 110 litres. With all seven seats in use, the roomiest common 7 seaters manage about 340 to 350 litres of boot.

Bar chart of 7 seater boot space with all seats in use: Peugeot 5008 348 litres, Skoda Kodiaq 340, Kia Sorento 179, previous Peugeot 5008 167, Volkswagen Touran 137, all short of the 560 to 770 litres seven large suitcases need
Boot figures: Auto Express, Carbuyer. Suitcase volumes: Markenkoffer.

For a full family with a big case each, look for the ACRISS FV class, meaning seven or more seats plus more space, or book an 8 or 9 seater. Bodyboards and beach kit take space, and sand gets everywhere, so pack soft bags.

Keeping a Fuerteventura 7 Seater affordable

  • Compare the total, not the daily rate. Fuel policy, deposit, insurance excess and extra driver charges all sit outside the headline price.
  • Check the unpaved road clause. If Cofete is on your list, either pick cover that includes dirt tracks or take the bus.
  • Price child seats per day. Hire firms usually charge per seat, and two or three seats over a fortnight add up. Bringing your own is often cheaper.
  • Book early with free cancellation. Winter sun and school holidays bring the highest demand. Lock in a cancellable rate, then search again nearer the date and rebook if prices fall.
